In Africa, the Sjambok (Sham-Bawk) is a cattle prod, whip, riding crop and an effective means of self-protection, whether from venomous snakes or from varmints of the two-legged variety! Unlike most western style whips which require a rolling “crack” to function, the semi-rigid Sjambok is swung like a rod or stick. The weight, speed and flexibility of the Sjambok’s lash does all the work, and little skill or training is required to wield it effectively. Our synthetic polymer version of the classic Sjambok features a thick injection-molded lash and is equipped with a soft comfortable Kray-Ex handle that’s designed to resemble braided leather. Since the Sjambok is made entirely from super-tough polymers, it’s incredibly durable and able to withstand weather conditions that would cause a traditional leather whip to break, crack or mildew.

I love carrying it while jogging. It doesn't weigh much so I won't tire my hands. A great comfort to have while jogging in the streets, in case a mangy mongrel finds me offensive and wants to give chase. However, the nylon strap that comes with it is a little bit short so I swapped it with a longer microcord strap that lets me sling it on one shoulder when I am just walking so that it won't be so obvious. A great non-offensive tool to carry around.
